About Me

by Mark

Hello, I’m Mark Reynolds — the voice, ears, and technical brain behind AudioComAV. I founded this site to help people navigate the complex and exciting world of audio, AV and portable listening gear. I’m glad you’re here.

My Journey into Audio

From a young age, I was drawn to how music sounds — not just what was playing, but how it played. While others chased the latest band, I found myself tweaking speakers, experimenting with cabling, and troubleshooting gear in my bedroom. Over time that hobby grew: I studied sound engineering, did freelance mixes, and worked with audio systems across venues, studios, and home installations.

In 2009, I moved into retail audio consulting. I helped everyday buyers choose speakers, headphones, amplifiers, and cables — not based on hype, but on what sounded good to them in their environment. After years of advising clients, testing gear, and writing technical guides, I launched AudioComAV. My goal: bring high-end insights into everyday language so enthusiastic listeners like you can make confident choices.

What I Do at AudioComAV

Today, my work revolves around three pillars:

  • Gear Reviews & Comparisons — Headphones, amplifiers, streaming devices, and everything in between.

  • Buyer Guides & Tutorials — Explainers on codecs, room treatment, wiring, and choosing gear that fits your space.

  • Industry Trends & Interviews — Insights into what’s coming next, brand stories, and speaker/engineer perspectives.

Every article is written with the same mindset: rigorous listening, hands-on testing, user empathy, and clarity. I aim to be the guide I wish I’d had when starting out.

Credentials & Experience

  • 15+ years in sound engineering, AV testing, and consumer electronics

  • Hundreds of product reviews across portable audio, hi-fi systems, and AV components

  • Worked in high-end audio retail consulting, helping clients from casual listeners to serious hobbyists

  • Studio experience: mixing, mastering, acoustic measurement, room tuning

  • Speaker setups in real homes: I test gear in varied real-world settings, not just perfect labs

How I Listen

My listening setup is humble but revealing. I use a variety of reference headphones and monitors, and assess gear in real rooms with typical acoustics. That means I hear how a device will really perform — not just on a demo bench. I value musicality, clarity, and usability over flashy specs. If a product sounds great but is impossible to use in real life, it won’t get my recommendation.

Values & Promise

Here’s what I stand for:

  • Honesty: I’ll tell you both strengths and trade-offs.

  • Transparency: I disclose my listening method, gear, and conditions.

  • Empathy: I write for people who love sound, not audio jargon.

  • Longevity: I pick gear built to last (or repairable), not throwaways.

Beyond the Gear

When I’m not listening, testing, or writing, you’re likely to find me in my small home studio working with tracks, or out walking with my favourite playlist in my ears. I also enjoy sharing tips with friends, exploring acoustics in everyday rooms, and staying curious about how we perceive sound.

Let’s Connect

I’d love to hear from you. Want to suggest a product to review? Ask about a headphone vs amp match? Share your listening story? Drop me a message via the contact page or email at mark@audiocomav.co.uk. I try to respond personally when I can.
